Are you sure??? What kind of problem are you facing? Make sure, then you try to get rid of it.

If you press the 3 keys --- CTRL+ALT+T simultaneously, you will be able to open the Terminal. Copy & Paste the following line in that Terminal

lsb_release -a; uname -a

Hit the ENTER Key. You will get an output. It will be about the Release, Description etc. Copy & Paste the output in the Message box below. This is essential to give you directions.

Unity is not a desktop. It is a shell. When you use Unity you are still using Gnome desktop.

If you want to you can install Gnome Shell from the default repositories. You can also install Cinnamon which is a reboot of the old Gnome 2 session. You can also install Xfce4 and use the XFCE session. XFCE is also built using Gtk.

Keeping everything in mind what Actionparsnip said, try to mention the problem that your desktop makes. Sometimes you will be able to repair it without much effort. For this, you will have to give some details atleast. (see #1) If you wish to try, continue here itself.

The Unity desktop is only god enough for senseless gamer and not for someone how thus practical jobs, in other words it is shit!
I do not see any practical future in it of a desktop playing hide and seek with the user Is drives me mad I extended Unity to Gnome just to patch up this idiotic jumping up and down. I do not know witch nonsense the developers bearing in themes mind.
I am a age pensioner, diesel mechanic is my trade how I can have a clue what's behind a Unity desktop.
Don't worry Micro$oft is a bigger shit
