For 6Gb RAM, use 6.6Gb swap (1.1 x RAM for over 2Gb RAM).

Unless you are planning to hammer the system or need suspend / hibernate you will not touch your swap space with that much RAM. Set vm.swappiness to 2 and you'll sail.

If you need hibernate / suspend then set 6.6Gb swap. I can imagine you have drive space to chuck around anyway so 6.6Gb space used as swap probably won't be noticed.

Can you help with this problem?
