After the system update toolbar and sidebar dissapeared

Please, let me know if it is possible to get my sidebar and toolbar back on Ubuntu for Netbooks?
Or the best way out will be just re-install of the system? I'm really feeling a kind of a moron with such a stupid question(((

Maverick is no longer supported in any way, there is zero support and zero updates. I recommend a clean install of Precise which will give full support til April 2017
