General questions about ubuntu.

Hello,

I am trying to listen to musi off my windows machine on my network. But, when i browse for the music and click on it, it comes up and says " could not launch mail client. KDEnit could not launch Kmail.". How do i get it to launch? The program that is requiring this is called amaroK.

Another question:

I cannot get my clock to tell the right time. I have maunally set the clock to my time, but every time i send a email or login to the operating system it's always off four or 5 hours. How do i fix this? I live in the CST timezone, please help.

last question:

I managed to install java for linux but i cannot get firefix to acknowledge that it's installed. Could someone please help me get firefox in order.

Yes i did. How do you cancel the request for help. I've decided to go with suse. I just bought the complete edition. It seems as if suse comes with everything in it.

question:

hi.i have just recently installed ubuntu/linux and i have some questions.
1. does this OS need an antivirus?
2. how can softwares like yahoo messenger and winamp be installed?
3. is it possible to view files from windows format?like wmv files.

Nervz, For future reference please open up your own support ticket by visiting https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+addticket rather than 'hijacking' someone elses as this will send an email to the person who created the ticket everytime a reply is made.

1. It's not neccessary and there is no antivirus software available for preventing linux viruses.

2. You can use yahoo messenger by using the gaim program in Applications -> Internet-> Gaim Internet Messenger. Or you can download the official Yahoo client here: http://messenger.yahoo.com/messenger/download/unix.html#debian Just double click the downloaded file to install.

3. You should have a link on your desktop to your windows partition which you can use to browse to your files. If you haven't got this link then see https://help.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/desktopguide/C/partitions-booting.html. To learn how you can play WMV files then see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
