Hi Glen...

Install open office from 8.04 install media to what?

Why for such an old version of ubuntu?

looking for stable/not sure about 10.04/must be LTS?

What version of open office you chasing?

If you use a live-cd you can just save your work to the local hardrive........

8.04 is still supported. It's supported until April 2011. So is not "old" at all as it gets full updates just like the rest of the other supported releases.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

If you have an internet connection you can run:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

add these 2 lines:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Save the new file and close gedit

then run:

cd ~/; wget http://i1-news.softpedia-static.com/images/extra/LINUX/small/key; sudo apt-key add ~/key; rm ~/key; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get --reinstall install openoffice.org

in the blank file paste this code, save the file and close gedit. You will then have openoffice 3.2 for hardy:
