have removed menu bar by mistake and can't recover it. help

Asked by dexter holmes

Have ubuntu 10.04 and menu bar just came up wrong (shutdown menu disappeared) so I removed menu bar to see if it would correct itself and now I can't access anything as the menu bar is missing. How do I restore to original?

Thanks in anticipation

From some of the discussions I've read, do the following: (I haven't needed to do this myself.)

1. Start terminal with Alt+F2. (A run box will appear.) You need to check the box "Run in Terminal."

2. In the box, type without the quotes: "killall gnome-panel" which will restart your panel, according to this discussion:

"After killing the gnome panel process gnome will restart the panels and we can continue our work without loosing the things we have done so far."

3. If the terminal screen stays open after the command did its thing okay, type without the quotes: "exit"

Hope that helps.
