There are several ways to solve this.First right click on network manager and enable networking.Then underr wired I think you can choose between dhcp and manual way.Try manual way if you didn before.Also you can try to make new connction under dsl.Other option is to type in applications<accessories>terminal

sudo pppoeconf

If any of this doesnt work install wicd from system>administration>synaptic and try to connect with it.

hi still ,getting the same error,
its dual boot -windows vista ultimate and Ubuntu.
I will explain once again my problem - I am having two OS in my Laptop.
when we start very first time my system and elect Ubuntu -not able to connect internet by using Wired network.
then again I will restart my system and login to Window OS,now i will restart the system and login to ubuntu then only I am able to connect internet in Ubuntu.

do I need to do some setting in Ubuntu?
please suggest me here;
kindly resolve this.

Once you connected from Ubuntu type in terminal

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

and see if that helps.

Can you help with this problem?
