how do I use a controller for games if most of them run only on windows?

I want to buy a game controller to play games but i see that most of them on ebay are for windows only. So before buying the game controller, what can i do to make work with linux

I know what the answer is. The thing is that there is no support for this control right now I hope some one comes up with a bright idea for this.
