I cant' run " $ gedit " from the shell

Asked by Federico

Hi everybody,

I always have run gedit, the text editor from the shell, but since some days ago I can't! This is the error message reported:

" Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display "

I didn't change no configurations or similar things, I really don't know the reason! Could you help me?

Thanks in advance for your usefulness!

Federico

Federico,

When you say "shell" do you mean on of the virtual consoles (ctrl+alt+F1, the all black text screen)?

" Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display " sounds like you aren't in Xorg - which gedit requires to run.

An editor you can use in a text console would be nano.

Good luck,
George
