Could not access nor edit menus in "Applications menu-bar"

Asked by kylyne

I was trying to organized all my application menus and unchecked some menu items that I believe I no longer need. After I finished my organization, I lost all my application-menu-items.

When I try to edit my menus again, menu window would not appear.

Menus in "Places" and "System" are all OK.

Tried to add a new Main menu item to panel, same result.

Already tried to restore it to default preference value using

gconftool-2 --direct \
  --config-source user-configuration-source \
  --recursive-unset

and i got the following error message:

"(gconftool-2:2791): GConf-WARNING **: Failed to load source "user-configuration-source": Couldn't resolve address for configuration source: Bad address `user-configuration-source'
**
GConf:ERROR:gconftool.c:969:main: assertion failed: (err == NULL)
Aborted"

Please help

I'm closing this question that I made a while ago.

I was able to resolve the problem by reverting to the undo file that was eventually saved by the system as I made changes to my Menu settings. Under ~/.config/menus/

Whew. I thought I will be force to do a complete re-installation.
