getting a large PC text file from my laptop to server where linux is installed

Asked by Fisik

I have a large (~48 GB) text file on my PC (windows XP OS).
I need to transfer this file to the computer (Mac pro, X) where Linux Ubuntu 8.04 is installed.
I am new user to Linux Ubuntu.

I need to setup a system so I can transfer files from PC to Linux machine and back transfer t my PC using some sort of FTP.
I read about Samba but I am not sure if it is the right software to start.

Thank you for your help.

This thing might take a little time, but try this [1], it does not
have a size limit, and its free (for the first time only). :D (it only
works when you have to send windows or mac files to other systems, it
cannot work the other way around)

Dear Sunny,

Thank you for taking time to answer my question.
I need to set up a system so I can access my files on my PC and transfer
to the Linux machine.
Some sort of FTP between Windows PC and Linux machine.
I read about Samba but I am not sure.

Fikret

Hi :)

Are you going to be able to connect the 2 machines by an ethernet cable? Do you have a router? Are both machine already on a Local area Network? If so then this should be really quite easy and Samba is likely to helpful somewhere along the line.

Please let us know
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Can you help with this problem?
