Try adding all those packages to the apt-get install line manually:

apt-get install openoffice.org openoffice.org-core openoffice.org-writer openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-impress openoffice.org-draw openoffice.org-math openoffice.org-base openoffice.org-report-builder-bin openoffice.org-officebean

If this fails, try re-running apt-get update immediately before apt-get install.

If it still fails after that, then your package database is stuck somewhere unpleasant :) and hopefully someone else will know how to unwedge it -- and they will probably need the output of:

dpkg -l openoffice.org openoffice.org-core openoffice.org-writer openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-impress openoffice.org-draw openoffice.org-math openoffice.org-base openoffice.org-report-builder-bin openoffice.org-officebean

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try that.

I would try installing OpenOffice 3.2, according to the instructions here: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-openoffice-3-2-in-ubuntu.html

It is installed from a .deb and cleans out previous versions with the command: sudo apt-get remove openoffice*.*

Can you help with this problem?
