What does the Start button on the keyboard do in Ubuntu?

Asked by LEGOManiac

The button on the keyboard that produces a context menu in Windows also produces a context menu in Ubuntu, as expected, but what does the old Start button do? I can't see a use for it. I do notice that if I accidentally hit it while playing Halo under Wine, Halo crashes so if the Start button doesn't have a particular use, I'd like to know if it can be disabled.

This key is named as Super.
U can change behavior by Keyboard Layout Options panel in Keyboard Preferences.
Also, U can bind any action for this key (Mod4) by combo.
For example, I use:

Mod4+Z: Run terminal
Mod4+D: Show desktop
Mod4+L: Lock screen
etc.

Well, remember that Super key is used by Compiz or Beryl for special visual effects.
