no .trash directory

Asked by G_man_IX9

I am new to Ubuntu and my rather small hard drive is getting full. I tried to empty the trash, but I don't see an icon or when using the recommended command line to accomplish this, I get a 'no such directory' message. Searching for .trash does not find one either. What can I do to resolve this?

Open a file browser and choose Trash from the sidebar.

You should also have a Trash icon in the bottom panel on the right, unless you've removed it.

Thanks. That did the trick. I however never saw a bottom panel. I am using a netbook and it seems that the bottom of the screen is hiding items. When I scroll down to the bottom icons on the screen they only are displayed partly. Changing screen resolution does not help.
