which type of partition

I want to create a partition and install Ubuntu. so that at the time of booting the system should ask if I want to go to XP or Ubantu.

I am aleared using XP, for making a partition for Ubuntu what type of partition should I make - Primary partition, Extended partition, or Logical drive.

Please boot your pc entirely from Ubuntu 9.10 live install cd and please use the proper install options step to make partitions.

In a dualboot installation simply run the install ubuntu and then tell Ubuntu to shrink the Windows partition at the proper step and install.
