Yate is the simplest telephony app to set up and use but was removed when upgrading from 16.10 to 17.04. Will a version compatible with zesty be released and if so, when?

Seems it is unmaintained so has been removed. I suggest you find an alternative

I'll close the report but must add that Yate wasn't buggy from the end user point of view and met or exceeded my expectations.

Other telephony offerings are not so easy to set up. I don't have hours on my hands to get something working and Yate was pretty much plug and play.
