Xubuntu: boot is slow

Having been advised that Xubuntu 11.10 is used for lower spec machines, After installation boot time is slower than Ubuntu 11.10.Is there a way to speed up boot times as i am a novice user and in need of help.

Can you reboot and run:

dmesg > ~/dmesg.txt; gedit ~/dmesg.txt

What is the content of the file?

I will try above, do you do this from terminal window or from startup options

Looks like you drive is causing the slowness. Is it healthy?

Drive could be unhealthy, as was posted on my first post it booted faster on Ubuntu 11.10.Would you recommend I reformat the drive checking for drive errors and then do a fresh install.
