installing ubuntu/ uninstalling xubuntu (on same partition)

i have xubuntu installed on my laptop alongside windows 7, if i were to install ubuntu over the xubuntu will it uninstall xubuntu? or do i need to uninstall xubuntu before installing ubuntu?

Ubuntu and xubuntu can be installed at the same time on the same partition. They are actually the same thing, with a different set of default packages. For example, to have both available, run:

  sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop xubuntu-desktop

Or install both via synaptic or any other package manager. Then you can select one or the other each time you log in.
