new Xorg file and ubuntu 10.10 will not boot

Asked by TR

1. Ubuntu 10.10 had no Xorg file.
2. I created one.
3. I pasted into the new file info to change the resolution of my monitor, which I had done in 10.04 successfully.
4. When I boot the normal way it stops at the splash-screen.
5. When I boot in Fail safe mode it boots complete with the correct screen size.
6. So how can I get normal boot.
7. As I mentioned I changed the resolution prior with the same info for my computer and it worked perfectly.

Back-up and remove the Xorg file and try to set the resolution via System->Preferences->Monitors.

When you remove the file, the only option is 800X600 and I need 1024X768.
Thanks, TR

Maybe you need to install some additional drivers via System->Administration->Additional Drivers

There are no additional drivers available.

The video card is "Trident Microsystems Cyberblade XPAil

I have the correct info pasted into the file for this card because before upgrading to l0.10 I used it for some time.
