Ubuntu 9.04 works fine but all the update versions released after that 9.10, 10.04, 10.10 hangs/freezes while working !!!

Asked by Prakash

Hi All there,

I am using Ubuntu for more than 2 years. My first move was with Ubuntu 9.04 and thats works completely fine with my systems. I upgraded to 9.10 with Ubuntu's new release that time, but its not successful that my system gets freezes/hangs while working and I have no other option other than to hard boot it. I even tried a clean installation of 9.10 on blank HDD, but it results the same.
The same scenario repeats with 10.04 and now with 10.10.

Still I am using 9.04 in one of my partition. Sadly I am not able to enjoy its latest versions !!!
I can provide you any sample outputs, file details etc... if you request.
I am very much eager to work in Ubuntu 10.10
Please help.

Thanks
Prakash R

9.04 is due to die in 2 weeks too...

Can you restart the X server instead of rebooting (Hard reboots can damage components physically so are not advised).

What video chip do you use?

Hi Thanks for your quick response.

The real problem here is my keyboard and mouse freezes and I have no options to type or select any thing from the screen. So I left with only one option hard reboot.
Regarding the video card details - I don't have any separate video card and its inbuilt one.

The details are:

Yeah was kinda hoping it wasn't one of those. They can be weird and sometimes need a LOT of work.

If you run:

gksudo gedit /etc/modules

add this at the bottom:

sisfb

Save the new file and close gedit. If you then reboot it may be a bit nicer. You should also log in and such then press ALT+F2 and run:

metacity --replace

Is it ok then?

Hi All,

After working successfully for 2 days, the problem occurred again !!!
While booting in to Ubuntu I am seeing an error which just flicks for a second "something related to sisfb not able to mount" like that.
Any particular output will help you in this?
Please get back to me in case you need any more information from my end.

Regards

Yes I also had the same issue with the software after new updates but then I took guide form here https://waterheateradvisors.com/ after I still do not face this issue again.

Can you help with this problem?
