Ubuntu lucid lynx display resolution is only 800x600

I installed Ubuntu linux lucid lynx on my laptop and it was working fine, however, the display resolution is only 800x600. Using Windows Xp the resolution is much higher. Is there anything we can do to increase the monitor resolution?

Do we need to install or update the driver, or anything like that?

My laptop's display configuration is as follows:

- SIS Mirage 3
- SIS 672 series
