low resolution using 10.04 on Advent 9115

My resolution is limited to 800x 600. I am running 10.04 on a Advent 9115 laptop. My graphics card is a SIS Mirage3 integrated graphics (256 MB shared). My screen in 15.5 inches widescreen TFT. Xrandr gives me: jeffreyfox@ubuntu:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600
default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   800x600 61.0*
   640x480 60.0
jeffreyfox@ubuntu:~$

Monitor preferences states that the monitor is unknown.
I am a newbie. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Jeff, click on System, Administration, hardware Drivers.
you may see that your driver is there. If so, it may need to be activated. Do so by following the instructions given if it is possible.
NOTE: If a driver is not mentioned in here , then you will not be able to activate it.
