Slow and flickering flash videos, no smooth scrolling, slow refresh

Asked by Nermi

I have nVidia GeForce FX 5200, NVIDIA Driver Version: 173.14.20, on Ubuntu 9.10 .
This computer use to have Windows installed, and I didn't have any problems with display. Now, when I try to watch Youtube videos or similar flash videos, they run slow and are flickering. There's no smooth scrolling of web pages either; it looks as something is wrong with refresh.

When I click on Display I get this: "It appears that your graphic card does not support necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphic card driver vendor's tool instead?"

If I click NO, my display properties appear to be "UNKNOWN".

Output of lspci | grep VGA:

00:0b.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266]

You don't want to use Display. you need to edit your xorg.conf file through:

gksudo nvidia-settings

Can you help with this problem?
