P4i45 Ubuntu 9.1 agp board problem

Asked by whitedog

Using The latest Ubuntu 9.1 Version , I Am Having Problems
Install 9.1 With A Nvidia FX 5200 Graphics Board.

Using The On - Board Intel Agp 845GV Graphics
Chip , Ubuntu 9.1 Installs Fine.

But When I " Blacklist intel_agp" In / etc / modpobe.d / blacklist.conf
And Shut Down , Then Install The FX 5200 Card & Restart The System ,
The Ubuntu 9.1 " Kernel Panics" & Freezes.

I Have Tried The Above Procedure With Ubuntu 8.04
And The P4i45GV Motherboard And 8.04 WORKED FINE.

Note: The BIOS In The AS Rock P4i45gv Is The Latest
Bios Version Of 3.40 But Its OPTIONS For On Board
& AGP Slot Selection Are Very Troublesome With
SOME Operating Systems As The Motherboard Requires
That IF You Wish To Install An AGP Board , The Driver For
The On - Board Intel 845gv Graphics Chip , MUST BE
Removed If An Seperate AGP Board Is To Be Installed As
The FIRST DRIVER Initally Loaded On ANY Operating System
During Its Initial Insatllation WILL Be Loaded FIRST
When The System Starts At Any Time In The Future.

Note: NO Xorg File Exists During Inital Install Of Ubuntu 9.1
For The On - Board AGP Graphics Chip That I Could Find
In Order To Edit For The NVIDIA fx 5200 Board.

My Question Is This : Are Or Is Their Any Other Files That
I Could EDIT After Installing Ubuntu 9.1 With The On-Board
Graphics That Would PREVENT The On - Board Driver
From Loading That The Nvidia Board's Drivers Could
Be Installed & Prevent Initial " Kernel Panic " ?

If you dont need the onboard intel video card then go into BIOS and disable the device. You will get a LOT less issues.

Sorry To hear That You May Not Be Aware That
That Solution Does Not Work On This Model.
It Is the Reason I Posted The Original Question
It Bios HAS A Known Issue which Cannot Be
Corrected As No Bios Updates To Completely
Shut Off On Bd Agp Exist , But Thanks For Trying

You could blacklist the intel drivers which will make it inoperable and the nvidia will be the main card. Worth a try.

You Don't Have To Capitalise Every First Letter Like This It Looks Silly And Takes A Lot Of Effort.

Can you help with this problem?
