First thing to try:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Then reboot. The monitor is different and the system knows this so has defaulted to failsafes.

If it's no good you can run:

gksudo nvidia-settings

Then set the res to 640x480 and write the settings to the X config file. You can then use:

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and edit the resolution line to what you desire, then reboot. If it doesnt work, simply rename /etc/X11/xorg.conf and reboot again from root recovery console.

Can you help with this problem?
