Nvidia Drivers, 12.10, GTX 550

Asked by Brad Decker

Greetings,

I have a custom built system with an ASrock z77 board hosting a I5 processor. My issue is with my video card and the nvidia drivers on ubuntu 12.10. When I try to install the drivers ubuntu screen settings stops recognizing the second monitor and it drops the resolution on my main monitor (native at 1920 x 1080) down to 1024 x 768. On the login screen with this problem the login window is off screen to the left after boot and I have to move the mouse over to the side of the screen to have it scroll the display over to the login window. Everything works fine with the Noveau driver.

There was a brief window where I had it working after installing linux-source and the nvidia driver but then an automatic update came through and after the update the problem re-occurred . Is this an issue that could be fixed by going to 12.04 or what can I do to fix it?

Can you disconnect the second monitor and leave on only the main monitor..

Then try to re-install Nvidia drivers . Probably problem occurred after a kernel update.
How you installed nvidia-driver ? From "Software Sources" or from Nvidia's site ? (.run file).

Thanks

I had them installed. I purged nvidia, made sure everything was up to date and reinstalled and it works again. Thanks NikTh for your response.
