Ubuntu quantal upgrade no video

Asked by Jeff

I just upgraded my laptop (Intel 2.6GHz 2GB Ram and Nvidia Gforce Gt 520M video card) to the new 12.10 quantal, now it just boots to a blank screen. Is there a way to boot to terminal mode, the root terminal in the recovery console won't allow me to install , upgrade or write to files, it only mounts in a read only mode and I do not get access to my files or anything else. If I can log in in terminal I may be able to install gnome-panel so that I may choose gnome classic on login. As of this point my laptop is useless so any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes , you have to mount the root directory manual as rw (read-write).

When you drop to root shell (from Recovery mode options I mean) , give this command first

# mount -o rw,remount /

Above command will mount the root directory as rw(read-write) but you have another problem ... no network.

So forget the above and when you are in Recovery Mode options select "Network" instead of "root" , this will enable the network (so you can install packages) and will mount the partition as Read-Write (you will see the warning).

Thanks

Uninstall the nvidia driver, reboot to Quantal then reinstall it. It is rare for propritary video drivers to survive release changes.

Can you help with this problem?
