Ubuntu 12.04.1 1920x1200@60 resolution Intel HD2000 / Acer X243W VGA

Asked by wim sturkenboom

Brand new system with Asrock H61M-VS motherboard, Intel I3-2120 proc, Acer X243W monitor, fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.1

After fresh installation, resolution is 1024x768 (monitor OSD); no options to increase in 'all settings -> displays'.
Created partial xorg.conf with modeline 1920x1200@60 and after restart of X, monitor indicates 'no signal'; this can either indeed be no signal or maybe it indicates that horizontal sync is too high.
Created 1920x1200@59 and 1920x1200@55 which made no difference.
Created 1920x1200@50 and now I have something that looks like 1920x1200; at least firefox icon and dash icon are round instead of oval; monitor OSD however states 160x1200/50Hz/63kHz

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg resets to 1024x768

mesa-utils installed and tells me sandybridge/ivybridge

nomodeset at bootup (in the kernel line) with or without xorg.conf results in 1024x768
Also the mouse pointer sometimes disappears when using nomodeset, 'all settings -> details' states now vesa: sandybridge/ivybridge

xorg.conf (based on an old one, hence references to nvidia)

Did you try uncommenting the refresh rates in your xorg.conf file?

Revision history for this message

Uncommenting the refresh rates does not make a difference; I even managed to get it to 'no signal' that way, but not sure if that was consistent or not.

As this is a dual boot with Win7, it 'obviously' works properly in Win7 (monitor OSD 1920x1200@60Hz).

And a last note based on your request for lshw output; I notice that it states that the configuration is 'i915'. Duh?

Problem solved; replaced the video cable and it came right. Still confused as to why it worked without issues in Win7, but OK

I see that this is now assigned to 'xserver-xorg-video-nv' Assuming this means nvidia, there is NO nvidia involved. It's HD2000 (I3-2120 processor)

Hi Marco,

assuming nv stands for nvidia, it's now incorrectly 'categorized' as the
question was related to HD2000 (integrated video in I3-2120).
