what is NVIDIA?

I found this after up dating to 11. what is it? do I need it? what dose it do? it tells me nothing other then this
"You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server." ?? what??
If it's something that I need and will help my computer, I do not understand what to do can someone tell me. feeling like a fool lol. I just dont get what it is saying. thank you

Nvidia is just a vendor supplied driver, which may offer slightly better performance for normal use, but would only be necessary for intense graphics like SecondLife. Another use would be for manageing multiple monitors. You can change to the Nvidia driver by going to the dash and searching for "additional drivers" (actually just have to type "add" and search). Run that, and select the Nvidia current driver, then reboot, and you should be using the nvidia driver.
