screen goes blank when logging out 12.04

Asked by John Spiesberger on 2012-07-13

Today I installed 12.04 on a dual xeon pc with NVIDIA 230GTX video card. When I click Log Out, the screen goes black and the monitor goes to sleep. Then the computer beeps once every 20 seconds (or so). Only way to turn off PC was the power button.

tried sudo update-grub, and didnt fix problem. I installed the nvidia post-release update driver, and it didnt fix problem. When sceen goes black, CTRL ALT F1 does not exit X11.

I suggest you report a bug with lightdm as it should load after you logout. You could try installing gdm and using that instead, may work.
