Black Screen Ubuntu 12.04

Asked by Jonathan G Shibley

I have an older machine with a Pentium 4 processor and an Nvidia GeForce3 Ti 200 graphics card. When I run Ubuntu 12.04 of the CD I first see a purple screen with two glyphs then everything goes black and stays black. The same CD runs fine in my newer machine with the Core I-7 Processor and the GForce 460 graphics card. Additionally, the older machine can run Ubuntu 5.x fine. Is Ubuntu 12.04 incompatible with order hardware? Or perhaps it lacks drivers for the older hardware?

Yes it will work just fine, you just need a boot option:

nouveau.blacklist=1

Some nvidia chips don't like the nouveau driver. This wil make it work

Can you help with this problem?
