Ubuntu 12.04 Troubles: black screen after login

Asked by Ann Chovie

Yesterday, I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04. I reboot after the upgrade and log in; or try to. After I log in, I get a black screen with my cursor for 15 minutes, only then having to type my password in again. It works after that.
When I open a window, it's rather small and doesn't have the bar at the top so I cannot close it. I cannot make the window bigger either. Also, the launcher will not appear.
How can I fix this?

Did you install the proprietary nvidia driver? If so you will need to remove it, then reboot and reinstall it. It is rare for proprietary drivers to survive release upgrades

Can you help with this problem?
