12.04 freezes after upgrade, disabled all nVidia drivers, reverted to kernel 2.6 etc.

Asked by Dean Manderson

Hi,

Freezing up requiring reboot post 12.04 upgrade, lost my launcher and top taskbar, pages acting weird/wont move or minimise but I did manage to restore them briefly by disabling nVidea drivers which I hear can cause problems..?

Im running HP Pavilion tx1000, memory 937.0 MiB, Processor AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Tech TL-56x2, OS 32 bit

Graphics appears to be Gallium 0.4 on NV4E after the upgrade and disabling all the nVidea drivers.

I have done the left shift thing on startup and booted the old kernal, problem persists.

Im real new to this Ubuntu world...not too fast....

Cheers Dean

Add the boot option:

nouveau.blacklist=1 nomodeset

Should get you a desktop

No, you manipulate grub, which passes the option to the kernel. No terminal needed
