Unity: Ubuntu 12.04 Precise has no desktop functions after last update

Asked by Chris Tree

I recently built a new 64 bit PC and thought I'd have a go at helping report bugs on a new pre-release, I think I'm out of my depth though. Aport has been great as it does most the work for me, this time however no bug report has been triggered.

When the system boots, after the log screen, the background picture appears with no control bars. If I right click on the desktop I can get the change background window up and from there I've been able to select options from All Settings. Finally, selected Ubuntu One and was able to get a browser window up so I could log into launchpad and write this.

As I said, I'm out of my depth but if I can help to diagnose this, please explain fairly simply what I need to do and I'll do my best to help.

Sincerely,
Chris.

I've continued to try options. Found desktop worked in 2D. Purged Nvidia Drivers and re-istalled using xswat PPA all good now. I must be learning something. Sorry to bother you, thanks for your time.
