hd screen resolution

I have an Acer desktop X1700 that i just installed ubuntu on. i have a gforce g100 512mb hd video card running an hdmi cable to a 47 inch lcd. my highest resolution is 1280 by 728 or something like that.

how do i get 1900 by 1080 resolution.

it doesn't show up in settings/resolutions.

 i downloaded the latest drivers and restarted.

still my screen is too big for the tv and the sidebar is cut off.
