unable to load ubuntu

Asked by VAshman

In the process of expanding a large archive I was notified that I was running low on disk space.

Could not transfer but only copy files to ntfs disk where there was available space.

Went looking for solution and came across ntfs-3g which seemed to address the issue.

During installation I think there was a package conflict or library removal suggestion that I was unsure how to handle, think I might have opted to install anyway. Upshot is I cannot boot into oneiric.

Windows XP on 2nd partition of first drive (dev/sda2) (as reported in gparted) is oldest OS. Win 7 was added sometime later and is on 2nd partition of second drive. Within the last 4 or 5 weeks initiated transition to Ubuntu, placing it on 2nd partition of third drive.

Installation went well and all 3 os's booted without problem. Now, however, choosing "Ubuntu, with linux 3.00-12-generic" at boot selection prompt results in <10 seconds of disk activity followed by black screen and blinking cursor. Ctrl alt del will reboot. Choosing "Ubuntu, with linux 3.00-12-generic (recovery mode)" presents menu with options "resume, fsck ,remount and root" but I cannot input and must hard reboot. Choosing "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" offers options of Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows. MS Windows option triggers brief message (I guess missing hal dll) and computer reboots. Choosing Windows 7 loads windows 7. Fourth & final grub option, "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sdb2)" results in black screen and flashing cursor as above but no disk activity. Ctrl alt del will reboot.

Have pasted below latest boot info script. Suggestions how to get back oneiric (and XP) from linux side would be appreciated. I fumbled through similar issue in the past and wound up editing boot ini in Windows (before installation of 7) and in the process erased Ubuntu partition.

My hat in in my hand, it is not red.
