Ubuntu 11.10 not able to do dual screens

Hello! I have formatted my computer 3 times trying to fix this. SO I thought I would ask you.

 I have two 19 inch monitors.

When the system is installing a fresh copy of 11.10 both monitors work correctly. But after it is loaded and reboots it stops working.

I have updated my Nvida drivers and I am thinking that might be the problem.?

I use Nvida settings tool and try to use the "twin" setting. After I tell it to apply it will show up in two monitors but I lose the top grey bar and I am not able to get to the bar on the left. The system is stuck and has to be reset by pushing the power button.
I have tried to change the resolution but it does not help.

The default display settings worked during the install procedure but does not work once the system is completly installed and boots up. If I go to the factory display icon (on top right) It shows all options greyed out.

Please help!

I use the package "nvidia-current"

I has issues with "nvidia-current-updates"

Try to purge all the other drivers "apt-get purge nvidia*" hen restart and then install "nvidia-current" and restart

I run in TwinView and it works great.

Hey thanks for the information but it did not work. Below is what I tried. Please tell me what I did wrong.

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>".

sudo apt-get purge nvidia* < note the star *. It will select all packages that begin with nvidia. This will remove all nvidia code from your machine and then we can start fresh.

Then, after a reboot, do:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
