Video tearing using unity but minimal or none using gnome session (same thing applies to linux mint)

Asked by tedi belušić

Weal, problem is by default well known, there are a mirriad of possible solutions and I have tried most of the simple ones.

But the most simplest is to use gnome classic session with, of course, latest nvidia drivers and enabled vsinc for the device...
Its not perfect, there is still tearing, but its minimal and quite acceptable.
Problem is that I quite like the unity look and feel and would like to use it, but tearing gets quite heavy killing the experience.

By the way same thing applies exactly to linux mint12.

Is there a way to get the tearing down in unity?

My configuration is: Ubuntu11.10 on Intel core 2 quad q6600, 4gb ddr2, nvidia 240.
I have a monitor over dvi and tv over hdmi.

Could try the xorg edgers update PPA (less fresh), may help if you have the 290 driver.

Can you help with this problem?
