Install problems on Dell xps m1730

Asked by Mike Nemeth

I have been trying to Install 11.10 32bit on my Dell XPS M1730 today and its a no go.

I have tried to install from windows, USB and CD.

All I get is a screen that cycles through some colours Red, Green, Blue Black maybe a few other colours can't remember.

If I let it sit and run for 5 minutes I'll hear the Bongos sound eventually, but the colours just keep cycling. Any ideas?

Open one of the console screens by pressing <ctrl><alt><F2>.
Log in and make sure your network cable is plugged in, then type the following commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudp apt-get install nvidia-current

Then reboot the machine:

sudo reboot

If you get error messages on the first command (the update) then it might mean that the internet connection is not working. If the video does not work on the first reboot, try rebooting again, and also try the other graphics port if the machine has one (think it does)
