ubuntu 3d to laggy, however my computer has decent specs.

My computer has 4gb with an nVidia graphics card. It runs windows 7 with no issue, however serious lag ensues when I attempt to run ubuntu 3d, sometimes, directly after login, the top panel moves down a few pixels(so you can see the desktop background showing through on top), weird shadow effects are also displayed, the mouse then becomes very unresponsive, othertimes, it is less obvious than this, windows minimize slowly at a very low fps, and the dash takes about 5 seconds to load(often displaying a semi-transparent dash before loading properly) I would very much like too be able run ubuntu 3d, and have already tried installing the latest nVidia drivers, I know my computer should be able to run it smoothly. Any help would be aprieciated.

You are probably running the open source drivers for your nvidia card. WHilst the open source drivers are quite stable, and support a wide range of devices, they are not particularly fast.

You may want to install the Nvidia drivers:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/nvidia

I installed the current proprietary driver for NVIdia, it's description was: 3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards. Required if you want to run Unity.
So yes, if that is what you mean, I have already installed it, and the problem is not fixed.

Given I only just installed ubuntu, I tried a complete reinstall, this did not help, however when I disabled the proprietary drivers that were automatically installed after that everything worked perfectly.

Can you, in order to aid others who might be running an internet search, post the contents of the folllowing terminal command (You can open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T):

lspci

That way anyone who is running your card might find that the noveau driver will provide better performance for your particular chipset.
