Fails to communicate with monitor

Asked by Jacob Sowell

just updated 11.04 to 11.10 never had a problem with my monitor before.

As soon as I rebooted, i saw the e pop up on monitor which is right for my mainboard. after it gets past the usual bios/cmos stuff, screen usually goes blank for a few seconds while ubuntu adjusts output frequency.

Now it just stays that way.

Tried plugging in a flatscreen instead and same thing except it just sits and says frequency out of range until it just goes to sleep a few minutes later.

If I place in the 11.04 live disc what files do i need to use to fix this or do i need to reinstall natty?

Add the boot option:

nouveau.blacklist=1

Then when you get into the OS, remove and reinstall the proprietary driver. Very often the proprietary drivers do not survive release changes.

I took a different route and just reinstalled 11.04 and re upgraded. this actually worked this time. I wouldn't have been able to do those changes anyways unless i did them blind.
