GUI not loading after install.

Asked by dan blundon

Installed within Windows 7 x64 using Wubi, restarted and GUI loads to complete install. After second reboot, select Ubuntu as OS, and it immediately drops to GNU GRUB. No idea what to do from here, need some help.

Using the AMD64 Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop release on AMD Phenom II Quad core at 3.2gHz, 4GB DDR3. and a 1 gig Nvidia GeForce 210 video card.

Add the boot option:

nouveau.blacklist=1

Should help, you can then install the proprietary nvidia driver

You can press E to edit the kernel at the boot screen and add it there

I don't get a boot screen once the second portion of the install runs. The main list of OS's comes up asking for either Windows or Ubuntu, as soon as I hit Ubuntu, it drops to GNU GRUB. Typing E only puts the character on it's command prompt, which it does not recognize.

Was able to launch the editor by uninstalling and reinstalling via Wubi, and added the string you provided to the end of the text that came up, it then seemed to run the second half of the install, but no improvement afterwords.

Is there a specific area within that first set of boot commands where this command must be added? There was alot of text in there, so I wasn't sure where it belonged.

Can you help with this problem?
