Unable to login damaged or missing graphics driver
I had a beautifully installed & fully working Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal desktop until this evening. Now Im kicking myself!!!
(step 1) I had tried to install an updated Nvidia graphics driver (280.13) the driver installed OK I did this from a terminal window by entering command line commands.
(step 2) But post install kept getting an error message saying that my xorg.config file needed editing and then I needed to restart the X server. Yes! easy if you know how? just couldnt find the file that needed editing /updating.
(step 3) ran the update driver tool, which said (two items showed in the list both with a green round icon next to them) A) the latest driver (current version- the latest version) and B) the Cannonical experimental 3D graphics driver which I had before and which worked OK! (this will teach me to fiddle wont it?? :-((
QTN:-
How can I get back or fix the display screen and log-in screen so I can fix this problem, looks like I have a damaged or corrupted display configuration file. Now I'm up the Amazon and no paddle as it were. HELP!!!!!!!
Thanks in anticipation.
PS: Cannot even get the original Ubuntu CD-R disk to load up or help?
