When I try to run Ubuntu without the disk my monitor goes blank

Asked by Anthony Nese

I can run Unbuntu perfectly through the CD I made but when I installed it on my computer and tried to run it I just get the Ubuntu splash screen then it goes blank and my monitor goes to sleep mode. How can I fix this?

Have you tried adding "nomodeset" to the kernel line in grub?

Hold down the left sift key and edit it when you boot.

I cant access that file because nothing works when I boot the computer. I tried editing it when I run it as a demo on the CD but the file is "read-only" so I cant edit it.

Hold down the left <shift> key on boot.
At the install screen press ‘F6‘ and insert one of the options below, depending on your hardware.
On first boot after install, press e to edit the GRUB menu.
Using the arrow keys to navigate, delete quiet and splash and again insert one of the options below.
Press Ctrl and X to boot.
