System freeze after login in 11.04

Asked by sandook

System locks up after login and doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard. Alt + SysRq + REISUB is also unsuccessful.
On reboot it will crash multiple times at boot before booting successfully without freezing. After that, the system runs normally until next boot. It generally takes 5-7 attempts to get the system running. I upgraded to Natty a few days ago, but this has been an issue in 10.10 as well.

Video card is Nvidia 8600GT with most recent proprietary driver.
Any help would be appreciated!

Be sure your ram memory is good please do a test using the grub menu item or the Live install cd

Try blacklisting the nouveau driver using a bootoption.

The ram memory test showed no problems. I just added 'blacklist=nouveau' to etc/default/grub and will post back.

Problem persists even after blacklisting the nouveau driver. I'll submit a bug report...
