How to stop command line startup

Asked by ndc_home

Installed 10.10. I then installed the "Startup manager" package to control the time out. Since I changed this Ubuntu now only starts with command line. I want to revert to GUI desktop without having to re-install the whole thing. is that possible please?

Please made login with yout user and password...
give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then type

startx

then use the Startup manager to start ubuntu in graphic mode and reboot...

Tried STARTX but came back to command line prompt. Last error seemed to be about the NVIDEA Graphics. I did try and get in using the Recovery mode from GRUB menu and then Low Graphic start, but that fails. I think the resolution is too high.

From the documentation on Startup Manager, I don't have all the tabs described in the document with the version I have just installed. There is no command or desktop start up option. Just which Kernal to start.

Any other suggestions appreciated.

I would appreciate knowing how to revert to VGA graphics setting via a command line. I think if I can get that right I might be able to get in via Recovery Mode. Then I guess I need to see if there a more advanced version of startup manager available.

Thanks

Thanks. I'll see what I can find. However I think it's going to be FIXMBR from Windows Recovery Console and start again.
