How do I rotate the display of an extra monitor on Ubuntu 10.10,Laptop HP-G60 Nvidia GForce 8600 external monitor connected via VGA. I am a beginner on Linux so try to explain it step by step.

"System --> Preferences --> Monitors --> Click on your external monitor --> Adjust the rotation drop down" should do it

I try that but it said this

"It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?"

If I press "No" its open the monitor preferences but the monitor said unknown but if I press "Yes" its open the Nvidia X Server Settings and there is no option to rotate my external monitor.

The nvidia serttings app allows rotation as far as I am aware.
