Monitor flashing Ubuntu 10.10 install

Asked by Randall Blake

I am trying to install Ubuntu desktop AMD64 with a USB drive. After booting from the USB drive, the screen that has the different options for installing and running Ubuntu is normal, but when it starts to boot whether I'm trying to run or install Ubuntu after a certain point the screen size change(i don't think it's the actual resolution, the screen is just in a small part of the monitor) and the screen goes on and off repeatedly and sometimes the screen is distorted. I'm also new to linux.

Monitor: DELL 2001FP @ 1280x1024

     Monitor Frequency 60 Hz

At install screen press F6 and select nomodeset and install Ubuntu as usual.

1. On first boot after install, press e on getting the GRUB bootloader.
2. Using arrow keys navigate to and delete quiet and splash and type the word nomodeset in their place
3. Press Ctrl and X to boot

You should now be able to login to your Ubuntu as usual
