NVIDIA 9600GT graphic card flickers blurry

Asked by B A

After installing Ubuntu 10.04 the screen is blurry and flickers, is unreadable. What driver should I use, or how can I solve this problem? Dual boot with Vista, that screen is fine.

Go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and install the recommended/current drivers.

I'm sure that is a great idea. Except that I can't see the screen. What I need to know is which driver will work well enough to allow me to read the screen. Then I can fine tune as needed. The current driver is 195.36.15, and I tried using earlier drivers, thinking they might work. No success. If someone knows which driver will work well enough so that I can see the menus, I may be able to solve the problem. At the least, I may be able to use the OS. Thank you for your response(s).

Try pressing and holding down Shift key at the Bios screen. You'll see the Grub menu. Choose the recovery option (2nd on that list) and then choose Safe Graphics or something like that. If able to boot that, you might be able to remove and re-install the drivers.

Or try reconfiguring graphics from the same menu.

Or you can also remove them by dropping to the root shell from the same recovery mode.

apt-get remove --purge nvidia-current nvidia-common nvidia-settings

Good Luck!
