Il problema è che è un hardware nuovo e il supporto dev'essere ancora completato.
Infatti c'è un bug per quel tipo di errore.
Sul terminale scrivi lspci e incolla qui il risultato.

nel frattempo ho provato ad installare Ubuntu 10.10 per verificare se il bug fosse stato risolto. Non compare piu' il msg di errore citato ma nella fase di boot e di shut down compaiono parecchi messaggi di controllo / errore. Non riesco a visualizzarli correttamente poiche' troppo veloce.

Quali sono i problemi? Dicevi che non faceva il boot, invece ora lo fa.

il boot lo ha sempre fatto ma dando sempre messaggi di errore, prima relativi alla scheda grafica e ora, dopo avere installato 10.10 relativi a non so cosa

Dovrebbe funzionare più o meno tutto, consigliano però di effettuare subito gli aggiornamenti (della 10.04) dopo aver installato il sistema perchè risolvono diversi problemini.
Ti conviene partire dall'installazione della 10.04.1 [è una 10.04 aggiornata] , e da quella installare gli ultimi aggiornamenti.

Ti consiglio di non passare alla 10.10 ma di restare sulla 10.04 (che è una LTS, cioè a supporto a lungo termine).
